COVID-19 UPDATE: State Parks encourages New Yorkers to recreate locally, practice social distancing, and use common sense to protect themselves and others. Getting outdoors to walk, jog, hike, ride a bike, or visit a park or state lands is a healthy way to stay active, spend time with your immediate household family members, and reduce stress and anxiety while practicing social distancing. While indoor spaces and restrooms at State Park facilities may be closed to prevent com...munity spread of COVID-19, parks, grounds, forests and trails are open during daylight hours, seven days a week. For the safety of all visitors, all State Park playgrounds, athletic courts and sport fields are closed. Visitors are asked to #recreatelocal, choose parks that are close to their home and follow CDC/NYSDOH's guidelines for preventing the spread of colds, flu and COVID-19. We appreciate your support and patience as we navigate this public health crisis together. Learn more about COVID-19 and its impact on NY State Parks. Visit: https://parks.ny.gov/covid19/ Early Season Camping and Pavilion/Shelters: Due to the global health crisis, all campsites, cabins and pavilions/shelters are CLOSED through May 31st. All visitors with reservations will be issued a full refund. We ask for your patience as refunds are processed. For those with cottage reservations, there is a possibility the stay restriction will be lifted prior to June 1. Campgrounds are open for recreation in daytime. Camping Reservations and Pavilion/Shelter Reservations: New York State has suspended all new camping, cabin and cottage and pavilion/shelter reservations for the 2020 season until further notice. We are assessing campground and pavilion status on a daily basis. If you've made a reservation for the season beginning June 1, and we determine your facility is safe to open, your reservation will be honored. However, visitors who wish to cancel an existing reservation may do so and receive a full refund. Thank you for your patience as we work to protect the safety of our visitors and staff. Our Allegany Region Naturalists have been hard at work coming up with fun projects that can be done at home: We hope everyone is staying safe and practicing social distancing. We've been seeing a lot of posts about rainbows in windows, and we know some of you are looking for new craft ideas! Here's an easy sun catcher you can make at home! Materials: ... 2 pieces Waxpaper, equal size Towel(s) Scrap Paper Colored pencils or Crayons Iron or Microwave Directions: 1. Draw a picture on a piece of waxpaper, preferably using crayons (the extra wax will help later). 2. Heat your drawing: - Iron: lay a towel on a table and ask an adult for help with the iron. Place your drawing face-up on the towel, cover the drawing with the second piece of wax paper, and lay your scrap paper on top. Next, ask the adult to iron the papers until the two wax pages are stuck together. (The towel will protect your table, and the scrap paper will protect your iron.) - Microwave: lay a piece of scrap paper (no metal) in your microwave, place your drawing face-up on the scrap paper, cover the drawing the second piece of wax paper, and lay another piece of scrap paper on top. Lay something microwave safe on top to press the layers together (we used a microwave safe ceramic plate) and heat for 90 seconds. 3. Cut out your creation and tape to a window! Tip: if you want to add pieces on, simply microwave or iron on the pieces using the same method described above, or just glue it.

It may not look like much just yet, but the foundation footers for the Ferris Wheel have been poured! The Twister foundation is also being done this week. We will be continuing to work on the refurbishment of the rides thru the winter. There are still opportunities to help us finish it - donations to the project can be made through the 501c(3), Natural Historic Trust, online: https://parks.ny.gov/natural-herit/support-state-parks.aspx or by contacting the park. All donations are held in trust and can only be used for this project.
