Our Drone Response Team (DRT) is currently assisting the Westbury Fire Department at another stubborn fire at Jamaica Ash.
Neighbors helping Neighbors Last evening, the Mineola Fire Department was alerted for a ceiling collapse in a private residence. Chief of Department A. Martone Jr. arrived on scene to find an elderly occupant outside reporting a partial ceiling collapse in their kitchen. Firefighters stabilized the scene by removing loose hanging debris and insuring there was no water impingement on the electrical service. With the scene rendered safe MFD could have returned to quarters. Thi...s everyday emergency was an overwhelming incident to the homeowner. But thankfully Mineola is a community that cares with neighbors helping neighbors in our Fire Department. Instead of heading home, the first responders went to work cleaning up the mess. Firefighters cleared up the piles of debris and removed it from the home. Third Precinct officers went to work too with a vacuum. All so that the elderly occupants could safely remain in their home. With Winter Storm Orlena coming towards us, Please make sure the hydrant(s) closet to your house are clear of snow! A cleared hydrant could save your home or even you as it allows firefighters to quickly locate the hydrant. Mineola Fire Department Adopt a Hydrant Program:... http://www.mineolafd.com/adopt-a-hydrant.html The Adopt a Hydrant program is designed for you to help us help you. The goal is to enlist the help of residents and business owners of all ages and ask them to make a pledge to adopt their local fire hydrant. The task is simple: whenever snow falls the department asks that you clear the hydrant so that firefighters have quick access to it. To enroll, please e-mail the chief's office at [email protected]. The department requests that residents and business owners provide their name, address, phone number and/or e-mail address and the location of the hydrant you would like to adopt. Once the department receives your request it will send out a confirmation adoption certificate.

As Ladder 165 was enroute to Westbury Fire quarters, they were redirected to the scene as a fast team.
