For those of you who remain under the spell of the diet industry, please pay attention to the data. If you're pushing your child to diet because you want to avoid Type 2 Diabetes, you may very well be pushing them to a disorder which kills one person every 52 minutes in the United States.

Maybe some people don’t do this publicly, but do it privately.

I used to exercise as a means to punish myself. To punish my body for eating too much or eating the wrong food. I spent hours in the gym doing as much as p...ossible to burn as many calories as possible. I tricked myself into believing that this was healthy, until I learned the hard way that this was not healthy at all. An injury led me to strength training. Along the way, I met some incredible people who pushed me to focus on gaining strength instead of burning calories. It turned into a passion, instead of an act of self-hatred. Today I encourage you to move your body in a way that you enjoy. Practice joyful movement. Exercise that makes us healthy doesn't need to abuse your body. Find some form of movement that makes you feel good - yoga, walks, hiking, dancing, a fitness class. A workout that gives back to your body doesn't have to make you incredibly sore or exhausted.
