Some pictures of what we have been up to last couple weeks while the boys chop corn. Some new feed space for our heifers, some fall decor and a great hillside photo from our neighbor Chelsea. We love this time of year, fall harvest, cool weather for the cows and beautiful scenery! #feedingamerica

Corn Harvest 2020 has begun!! It’s a little early, but the hot dry summer we had has matured the corn very quickly. We, along with many of our neighbor farms, will be out chopping and hauling feed to the farm for the girls. Please be patient and careful when you see our equipment on the roads!! #feedingamerica

Well it’s a wrap, Cortland Classic 2020 is in the books. We are very proud of everyone who participated and put the work in getting their cows ready for the show. A huge thanks to Scott Haynes and Kelly Driver for helping us fit cattle and teaching these kids what showing is all about!!!

In 2014, we purchased the remaining Brown Swiss of one of our vets, Matt Weeman, fulfilling a long-standing wish of Sarah’s to bring some color to our herd. Clutz and her family taught us how unique Brown Swiss personalities can be, led us to our first show, our first auction to buy more Swiss, and the start of some great friendships. It seems surreal that in six short years, our herd of brownies has grown to over 100 head, each with her own name and personality, spoiled ...by everyone who works with them. Some of that growth came from the purchase of cattle from respected breeders and when we classified this past week, it reminded us again of the cattle and friendships that have been nurtured in 6 short years. Herd manager Bemzai Ramirez saw his cow, Drivale Braiden Lego, raised to Ex-91 Ex-MS, 2E. Lego was our first Swiss to classify Excellent here at the farm and is the foundation of a sizable cow family already. We purchased Westan Powersurge Mariah from our neighbor Carol Weddle as a springing heifer and are happy she classified Ex-90 Ex-MS, 2nd calf. Other cows that have several daughters here gained points, including favorites sired by Braiden and Harts Thunder. We are excited about the udders and uniformity we see in young cows sired by Cadence, Richard, Bosephus and Carter that carry our NHV prefix. This week’s classification caused us to pause and appreciate the foundation cattle purchased from other breeders and the thoughtful discussion they have shared with us about bulls and cow families. We also know none of this is possible without a talented, dedicated farm team that works tirelessly to give the girls fantastic care and feed daily. So today, we celebrated. Both the girls and our team were in their working clothes. A special thanks to Kelly for all of your support in our Brown Swiss journey, and thank you for all the delicious treats!!!

I know we are a little behind on sharing spring work as we have been a bit distracted. Thank you Jason for helping getting the great shots, we just wanted to share what we have been up to in the fields the last few weeks, working hard and farming on #feedingamerica
