Dr. Verra is joining us today to perform various procedures. He’s putting together his findings for a patient that he just completed an ultrasound on.
Today on #MemorialDay, please take time to remember and honor those who gave all for our country. This weekend, and every day, they deserve our deepest gratitude.

First fawn call last night. A brand-new fawn on someone's lawn. PSA: Remember to leave fawns completely untouched and alone. Their hooves take a week or so... to harden enough to follow Mom long distances. They have virtually no scent at birth, so that predators can't find them. Mom is nearby, watching her fawn and you, and may huff and charge if you get too close. She comes to nurse the fawn several times a night and stays out of sight the rest of the time to not draw predators near her baby. Don't move the newborn fawns unless they are actually IN a road, and then use a towel or gloves and move them just enough to be off the road. By tomorrow, they'll likely have walked somewhere else with Mom. Reasons for concern could be: visible blood or injury, a dead doe on a road nearby, a cloud of flies around the fawn, or the fawn is non-stop crying with no Mom right there. If on your property, stay far back, do not approach, use your zoom lens for photos, and keep kids and dogs far far away. Note to selves: Keep dogs leashed when out on the trails for now. Please don't kidnap fawns. See more
Hella the hedgehog. Pet hedgehogs are quiet, active, entertaining, and require a lot of care. They make great companion pets, however, they are nocturnal, and need to be fed and cared for in the evening.
DID YOU KNOW? NVH is one of a very few privately owned veterinary hospitals in the Hudson Valley. Most other veterinary facilities have been gobbled up in corpo...rate takeovers NVH has been family owned and operated since 1993 by Drs Victor Dasaro and Ellen Friedman (who have been in business and personal partnership sine the 1970’s) Along with our owners, we have 6 associate veterinarians, and support staff, including customer service specialists, patient care coordinators, outpatient assistants, veterinary technicians, pet care givers and resort staff, as well as several managers who keep everything running. The hospital may look small from the front of the building, but it is surprisingly large ( and always bustling) behind the scenes. And of course our New Paltz hospital , All Creatures Veterinary Care, is a great hospital as well ,with a little more laid back atmosphere. We make sure to keep our technology up to date and provide continuing education for all employees. Hope you enjoy these photos! See more
Java the Lion Head rabbit is here for a follow up exam w Dr Steinbeiser this rainy Saturday. Lionhead Rabbits are small bunnies with compact, rounded bodies and are considered to be a fancy breed. The distinguishing factor between Lionhead bunnies and other breeds is that this breed has a wool mane. The similarity they share with the king of the animal kingdom, the Lion, is the reason that they were given their breed name. Lionheads are not only cute and perky, they are very good-natured bunnies who are also tolerant of children as well, and as such, they make wonderful pets for kids and adults alike.#lionheadbunny#lionheadrabbit#fancybunny#pocketpet#rabbitlife#nvh
Happy Valentines’ Day from Chance, one of our favorite day care guests
This winter weather has many people reaching for antifreeze. A key ingredient in antifreeze is ethylene glycol which is HIGHLY TOXIC to pets. Pet safe antifreezes DO exist. #petsafety#antifreezepoisoning#winterishere#keepyourpetssafe#nvh
