SUNY New Paltz Alumni Shanay Bradley '12 picked up basketball late, but that decision ultimately changed the trajectory of her life leading her to attend and eventually become a Hall of Famer at SUNY Delhi before joining the Hawks women's basketball team and helping build the foundation of the dominant program it is today, while finding her career as a Director at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Syracuse, NY. Since coming in as freshman, SUNY New Paltz men's soccer senior class of Kevin Doorley, Ryan Martinez, Schuyler Mann, Mike Considine, James Hennessy, Jared Sparks and Carlos Cuellar helped changed the culture for new Hawks coach Kyle Clancy. In the past three years the group helped the program to a record season in 2018 and establish the program as one of the best in the conference. Although their careers were cut short due to COVID-19, their legacies are imprinted within the #NPMS program. Although their final season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the SUNY New Paltz women's volleyball senior class of Olivia D'Antonio, Haley Timarky, Julie Greenspan, Demi Herasme and Caleigh Carr still elevated the program to where it is today, while also capturing a SUNYAC title along the way. This fall had the SUNY New Paltz women's soccer team eyeing a trip to the postseason for the first time in eight years before it was unfortunately canceled due to COVID-19. For the past three seasons the senior group of Jessica Levinson, Monika Morasse, Megan Tornatore, Kaitlyn Connolly, Kayleigh Kirkpatrick and Kristin Lasker built the foundation and changed the culture of the Hawks women's soccer program and although they won't be apart of that near future success, the impact they made when the program achieves it was evident. In a special episode of Hawk Talk, Athletic Communications Director Monica D'Ippolito interviewed 2008 SUNY New Paltz Swimming alumna and NCAA Division III National Champion Michelle Coombs Perry and her former coaches, which happen to be current SUNY New Paltz Associate Director of Athletics, Wellness & Recreation Brian Williams and Assistant Director of AW&R Danielle Strauchler about Coombs' first season with the Hawks, how she came back to the sport, found her love of swimming again and eventually became the program's first female NCAA National Champion after touching first in the 100-yard freestyle in the 2007 National Championships.
