The year is 1917 the Great War is on. This car in the number series 521 - 522 derailed along the Erie Canal. Cars from this series were sent from Rochester to Utica lines. This picture is from the William Reed Gordon collection.
A new exhibit at the museum features 141 scale model Bugatti vehicles that illustrate the striking designs the company was famous for. Look for this exhibit in the hallway between the main exhibit hall and the model train room.

One of the transportation contributions of the 1904 St Louis World's Fair was the electric streetcar Although street railways had been in use in North America since the early 19th century, electric street railcars were still relatively novel at the time of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. Outside of the Palace of Electricity, an exhibit including a working electric street car and 1400 feet of track demonstrated the speed, acceleration, and braking capacities of this new-powered model.[13] Electric railways for inner-city transport are still used in many cities today

The museum is sad to report that a long time supporter of the museum has recently passed away. Gary Morse was instrumental in the restoration of the museum's Casey Jones track car that was donated to the museum in an extremely sad condition. Gary brought the car back to life as if it had just come off the show room floor. The link below will take you to his obituary. Gary will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. https://www.crawfordfuneralhome.com/obituary/Garrett-Morse
Thanks to AvR Digital Photography for a mention today!
We are also saddened to report the passing of another member of the NYMT family. Gerard Doerr on 26 Aug 2020. Gerard was active at NYMT in the model train room and worked tirelessly to help maintain and improve the museum’s 50+ year old HO layout. Due to health issues Gerard had not been regularly active in recent years, we missed him them and we miss him even more now. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. It is with profound sadness that we report the loss of a friend, colleague and trustee of the New York Museum of Transportation. Our friend Carlos Mercado, Jr. passed away unexpectedly late last month. Charles Lowe president of NYMT commented: Carlos cared deeply about our museum and loved being a motorman. He was one of the few among us who had actually ridden streetcars in regular service. Mr. Lowe continued that he knows others that have ridden subways and the North Sho...re, but Carlos had ridden PTC (Philadelphia Transit) streetcars to school for several years in the early 1950s. So, Carlos brought life experiences on electric railways to our tiny operation. Charles Lowe continued, One thing I had talked with Carlos about over the years, and had done so again recently, was that it would be great to repaint car 7 into a "tribute" Rochester Transit scheme. We often talked about the problems on the Subway, and we both thought that RTC should have bought 15 or 20 of the Minneapolis PCCs when they became available. Our last discussion was just a few weeks ago when I told him I had bought a few more 1960s RTC bus slides. Car 7 needs to be repainted anyway, and paint is not forever anyway, so I propose that as a fine tribute to Carlos we use a RTC tribute scheme when it comes time to repaint car 7. His passing hits me a bit too hard. Carlos was a regular at Winterfests, and it was always so much fun to see him so energized at those affairs. He was a great friend and I will miss him. Here is another page to color. This is the museum's Genesee and Wyoming caboose number 8. Have fun!
