We have been notified that individuals have been receiving a scam email pretending to be OTTC. You will only ever receive email communication from us using the address [email protected]. Please delete messages from any other account.
Genuine businesses and government agencies will never ask for payment via gift card. Any such request is a sure sign of fraud. The same is true if you get an urgent call that’s supposedly from a grandchild, or if someone you’ve grown close to online suddenly asks for a loan. A request for money via gift card means you’re dealing with a scam, not a loved one.

Computer viruses can do serious damage to your system, so watch for these warning signs: 1. Strange and frequent pop-ups - If you’re getting bombarded by pop-up ads, your computer may be infected by a virus. Same goes for unusual alerts and ads for anti-virus products. 2. Messages you didn’t send It’s a red flag when a friend says they received a fishy email, instant message, or social media message from you that you didn’t send. ... 3. Lockdown warning - This might be the scariest virus symptom: a pop-up message saying you’re locked out of your computer unless you send money. Ignore the scammer and take your computer to a computer repair professional. 4. Very slow startup - If your computer takes forever to boot up and you’ve done all the usual troubleshooting, including reducing the number of programs that launch at startup a computer virus could be the cause.

Smartphones and tablets don’t like cold weather. When a lithium-ion battery is exposed to low temperatures, it can drain faster than normal or indicate it has ample power remaining and then suddenly go dead. Low temperatures can also make a device’s glass surfaces more sensitive to cracks and breaks, especially if there's already a nick. To protect your devices, don’t leave them for long in a parked car. Instead, take them with you, either in a clothing pocket or insulated bag. In the event your device does shut down, don’t restart it until it’s had time to warm up restarting immediately could actually cause more harm and shorten the battery life.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security that requires two distinct forms of identification in order to gain access to an online account or computer system. In this context, a factor means a way to convince the account or system that you are who you say you are. In 2FA, the first factor is typically your username/password pair. The second factor may be something you have (such as a text with a time-based code sent to your smartphone or other device, or a smartphone authenticator app) or something you are (biometrics using your fingerprint, face, or retina). Despite the slight inconvenience of a longer log-in process, security experts recommend enabling 2FA wherever possible.
