Central Park Medical Unit attended a joint ice rescue training led by NYPD and FDNY. The Park is home to numerous bodies of water that freeze over in the winter time. It’s important to NEVER walk out on the ice. Falling through the ice is extremely dangerous for the patient and first responders involved in the rescue.

Lesson Learned - Always Wear a Helmet when riding a bike, scooter, rollerskates, rollerblades, skateboard or similar. The difference can mean the difference between a relatively minor injury or a major life-threatening injury or death. Frankly, there is no reason not to wear a helmet. An important part of any EMS operation is fleet management - especially when it comes to routine maintenance. Just as patients rely on CPMU EMTs for emergency medical care, we rely on our vehicles for rapid response and transport to hospital emergency rooms. This repair work is critical but costly. Help us by donating or purchasing CPMU apparel on our website.
During the Summer, Central Park is especially busy all throughout the day - even late into the evening.
