With the summer heat back again, let’s concentrate on getting the car prepped for a hot summer driving season. Make sure your cooling system is up to snuff. Is the temperature gauge showing higher than normal temperatures? Are you losing coolant or is it old and brown? Bring your vehicle in and let us take a look at it. We’ll inspect the system first, including the belts and hoses. We can flush your radiator and check/replace the thermostat. Get the cooling system prepped now and avoid a blown engine head gasket and car life shortening abuse.

April 2020 Auto Repair in the Age of COVID Normally I would tell you to get the studded and snow tires taken off and start thinking of Summer, since the weather is only going to get better. That is still a good idea. But now with this medical emergency and all of you socially isolating at home, now is a good time to bring your car to us and get that big project done, since many of you have the luxury of time.

February 2020 Catalytic Converter Care and Warning Your vehicle’s Catalytic Converter is the most important part of your vehicle’s legally required emissions control and is required in most states like NY. Furthermore, NY goes by California’s tighter, not just Federal, emissions standards; so special more expensive converters are required for replacement. The catalytic converters use rare earth and expensive metals as catalysts to complete the combustion of exhaust gases... to oxidize the more harmful polluting compounds, all at a very high temperature. A catalyst is a material the assists in a chemical reaction without being part of the ingredients or products of the reaction. Lately, the price of new and used catalytic converters has doubled in price, including record prices for scrap ones. This is fueling a surge in theft of converters. But even if they don’t get stolen, they can get killed easily. Since they run so hot, running your vehicle through deep water can cause a massive thermal shock as the water hits the hot metal case that will destroy its insides. Another way is that a poorly running or oil burning motor can overload the cats with an excess of waste products, causing premature failure. So be kind to your catalytic converter and hopefully it will never have to be replaced. And park your car in a place where cat thieves can’t cut it out easily. See more

Jan 2020 Quick Winter Tips 1. Check your tire pressure. It naturally drops when cold as well as more leakage might occur 2. If you can’t remember the last time you changed your wipers, change them! 3. Have your battery load checked. It’s CCA, cold cranking amps drop off in cold weather. Also, if you have an electric car, it’s range will fall off dramatically in the cold too
