Queer Spiritual Counseling 15.01.2021

A rabbi’s drash/lesson on the Christmas story: The world didn’t change with the birth of a baby. Christmas represented a commitment to a process of change that would last 33 years in its first phase with moments of terrible demoralization along the way. We all are changing and repairing our world now as fast as we can. But remember the Christmas story, the Joseph story, the story of Honi the Circle Maker and the carob tree. We need to be in this for a very long haul, workin...g for some changes that will take us a lifetime and for some changes that we won’t live to see. And we need to be ready for moments of demoralization along the way. Blessed be the moment of beginning, blessed be the long and non-linear process of change, blessed be the fruit of our labors, which will ripen in its time. B’karov b’yameinu. May it be soon and in our days, but whenever. B’eyt ratzon HaShem. In the time of God’s desiring.

As Billy Porter taught the world last night at the Emmys, "The category is LOVE!" He also quoted James Baldwin, though, about how much work and how many years it takes to respond to the hateful filth we are fed by a Queerphobic and racist world. Be patient with yourself as you do the work. Even though no one has the right to treat us with hate, we have no choice but to do the work. We do the work for ourselves, for our loved ones, and for those who will follow. Healing ours...elves is an essential part of repairing the world. May we be impatient with hate, but be patient with our own spiritual journey and healing. If you want support on your healing journey, email me at [email protected], and let's set up a time to talk.

It has been a while since I posted anything here a *long* while but I’m back. ********************** Queer people are often appreciated for our strengths but censured for how we learned and earned them. Exploited and undermined at the same time.... CELEBRATE your gifts. Celebrate the surprising, non-linear, untraditional, boundary-stretching, DIY ways you found your power and intensified it. USE your skill and strength the world needs every bit of spiritual ingenuity available to it at this moment in time. RESIST. Resist the rampant injustice in the world. And for starters resist any shade of shame cast on you for your Queer gifts. Resist the reflex of shame that people expect to find within us and try to trigger to their advantage. BLESS the Divine Queer Power that has planted our talents within us and that counts on us to illuminate tangled pathways for ourselves and others.
