Quogue Wildlife Refuge is thrilled to be working with local Garden Centers and Nurseries in the community so that together we can support our local wildlife with the sale of native plants. Click the link to see the businesses that are participating. It’s a fun way to support birds, bees and butterflies by purchasing native plants for your garden! https://quoguewildliferefuge.org/go-native-for-wildlife/

Happy #WildlifeWednesday ! Rain or shine, it always seems like swallows are having more fun than anyone else! Did you know swallows appear to play together by dropping feathers in the air to then swoop down and grab? Keep an eye out for the different species that visit the Refuge on your next visit. Barn swallows (1st photo), tree swallows, purple martins and Northen rough-winged swallows (2nd & 3rd photos) can all be seen at the Refuge as they zoom above the pond hunting i...nsects or playing. #quoguewildliferefuge #birdsoflongisland #barnswallow #wildlife #quogue #nature #discoverlongisland #migratorybirds #birdnerd

What a SWEET surprise! QWR was selected as a recipient of 'Tate’s Tribute', during which they select an organization, personality, or landmark that deserves to be recognized as one of the reasons why Long Island is a great place to live and work. Thank you to Tate’s Bake Shop for choosing the Refuge and for making our work days delicious with the surprise box of cookies delivered to our front porch!

Need an extra volleyball player? Look no further than our resident groundhog! Quincy the groundhog loves to play with his volleyball as enrichment under staff supervision. He's got all the moves - passing, rolling, digging. Enriching an animal's environment can come in many forms, including adding natural items to their environment, or providing them with a species-appropriate challenge.Or introducing a novel item like a volleyball! Added bonus of being extra cute #groundhog #woodchuck #nonprofitsofinstagram #quoguewildliferefuge #marmotamonax #rodentsofinstagram #wildlife #enrichment #volleyball #wildlifewednesday #animalsofinstagram #dailydoseofcute

It's Trivia Thursday! Does anyone know this dabbling duck just by looking at its white speculum (the white wing patch)? This species is one of the earliest to form pair bonds that will last into the Spring breeding season. Maybe this coupleis honeymooning on Old Ice Pond? There's lots of amenitieshere in Quogue - plenty of all inclusive aquatic vegetation and island shelter! We're glad they're here. Anyone else have a hard time choosing between your favorite snack and making your bed comfy? Our groundhog has been collecting leaves for his burrow, but forgot to drop them off before trying to hold his favorite snacks. Adorable! Thanks to all who have supported the Refuge this #givingtuesday! Your donation helps us care for our permanently injured wildlife like Quincy, and keep our nature preserve open for humans and wildlife!
