Come and have a BERRY GOOD TIME with us!

Schoharie Fire Department 20.06.2021

Late last night, our dept and Scho-Wright Ambulance Service were dispatched to a one car motor vehicle accident. You've all heard the saying "a picture says a thousand words" - the only words we can say is that thankfully the driver walked away uninjured. ~ As you're driving this weekend (and anytime for that matter), please remember that many others are also travelling to high school graduations, graduation parties, sporting events and community activities. Please remember to slow down, buckle up, put down your cell phone and drive safely.

As final exams continue this week and graduation gets closer, we;d like to say congratulations to all of the Schoharie Central School District graduates! What a year that you've conquered - now go conquer the future!

Good morning Schoharie! We're sure you're all awake right now...quite the thunderstorm this morning! ~ Anyhow, if you lost power last evening and live in the area of Warner Hill Road and Ward Lane, our volunteers responded to a motor vehicle accident that damaged a utility pole. Thankfully, the driver of the vehicle was not hurt. The pole on the other hand, well, did snap into two pieces. ~ And we could always use an extra driver for events like this. Not all of our members fight fire...some prefer to simply drive a truck. Sound interesting? Stop down to our station during tonight's drill at 7pm and get a tour of our trucks.

Just in case you are in downtown Schoharie today and see smoke coming from the lawn of the DAR house, it’s not an emergency! It’s just a chicken barbecue and a great historical program. The program starts at 1 PM So stop on by and grab some chicken or ribs as well!

When you're travelling by our fire station, please make sure you check out our big, beautiful American flag flying high! It has special meaning in that it was given to our department by former fire department member Frank Kennedy. What makes it even more special was that Frank was deployed overseas in Afghanistan last year with the National Guard and had this flag flown aboard a KC-135 Stratotanker. And to make it better yet, the aircraft boom operators are with the City of Knoxville - Government Fire Dept! Thank you Frank...and welcome home!

Thank you to everyone that supported, either as a participant or a spectator, the Schoharie Memorial Day Parade on May 27. As the holiday weekend approaches, please remember that Memorial Day commemorates all men and women who have died in U.S. military service. We ask that you take time to remember those that paid the ultimate sacrifice to guarantee the freedoms you have today. God Bless our Veterans.

A Year In Review * Some look back at this year and think YUK! And while it did have it's challenges, our department had some big wins. Six local residents answered the call and joined our department! Five of our volunteers attained their EMT certification! Our volunteers responded to 240 emergency calls and an unknown amount of drive-by birthday parties! * Our newest apparatus, our mini-pumper named1423, was placed into service!... * In spite of Covid, we held a few fundraisers including our annual fund drive letter, a chicken BBQ, paint and sip party, an online auction, a Fall squash sale and Winter pancake breakfast. Thank you to all of our friends that helped support us! * With grant monies we were able to purchase some protective clothing for our EMTs, wildland and forest fire firefighting equipment, traffic control and fire police equipment, motor vehicle accident tools and our biggest win was a $92K grant to get new radios for us and three other departments! * So, thank you to our Village and Town officials for your continued support. Thank you to our residents for your continued support. Thank you to all of the emergency response agencies for responding when we need you. And a special thanks to all of our members and their families for the time and energy you put into our department. SFD wouldn't be what it is without you! And to everyone, make volunteering (with us) your New Year's resolution! See more

A Day To Remember * 6:41AM - Schoharie Fire Dept fire and EMS volunteers respond to a 1-car motor vehicle with entrapment. After quickly removing the 'b-pillar' on the truck, our members successfully extricated the driver with our TNT Rescue Systems, Inc. tools. ** 1:11PM - Schoharie Fire Dept volunteers respond to our station in support of today's high water event. Following our established plan, our members notified effected residents, helped re-direct traffic and staffed o...ur operations center while constantly monitoring the water levels. *** 4:30PM - Schoharie first responders provided assistance to Scho-Wright Ambulance Service for an EMS call. **** Thank you to all of our members and other emergency response agencies that provided assistance throughout the day. It's always great working with you!! ***** Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night! See more

And so we come to the 12th day of Christmas and the day of our pancake breakfast. Be sure to come by and say hi to Santa, get an ornament and candy cane from him and then drive on thru to get your pancake breakfast! I think the Grinch may even make an appearance! Todays question is... We truly love the symbolism of hope, peace, and tranquility that something as simple as a Christmas tree can provide. The memories, love and generosity shared around them has made them a tradition that is truly TREASURED. One has to wonder why we don't enjoy this inspiring symbol everyday.... or do we? Does anybody know where we can go to catch a glimpse of a beautifully decorated Christmas tree in our community year round?
