In today’s age it is SO easy to forget what makes us all so unique from other animals.. which is OUR HANDS! It seems like the more technology we have, the LESS we use our hands. Sometimes the simplest way to build skills, provide sensory input, promote focus, and learn is to use our ! Here a student and I discussed building activities. As she drilled, she used her eyes and hands to align the two pieces, felt vibration in her fingers and muscles, and learned about a new sk...ill. Later on when speaking with this student and her family, they discussed making their own balance beam for outside! How cool! We are sensory creatures and it is so important to make sure that our days are as sensory-rich as possible. #finemotorskills #build #tools #occupationaltherapy #kids #fun #creative #sensoryinput #hands

Happy New Year! Our 4s group had so much fun making fireworks! We were focusing on crossing midline and creating diagonal lines so we are ready for handwriting! We also practiced on a vertical surface to encourage shoulder strength and stability, another important foundation needed for writing! What do you do to make prewriting strokes fun!? Comment below! #pediatricot #prewriting #handwriting #group #fun #fireworks #happynewyear
Happy Monday! The things we say, write, and think have monumental effects on our mindset, actions, and achievements. Consider creating a daily affirmation and repeating it 10-20 times a day. Daily affirmations help keep you in a constant state of gratitude and keeps you motivated!
We hope everyone had a fun Halloween! We sure did! We loved seeing so many costumes this week! And we even got to watch this little witch make a magic potion in her cauldron! #halloween2020 #occupationaltherapy #tactileplay #sensoryintegration

Happy Halloween week! Feel free to share your holiday spirit with us and have your child wear their costumes to OT this week!
For the first week of 2021, wear your pajamas to OT!
We have been having SO much fun in our enrichment groups! All the Write Moves 4 year old group is working on the foundational skills needed in preparation for kindergarten! We incorporate elements of Handwriting Without Tears along with movement and sensory experiences! Most importantly the kids get to PLAY! Learning play skills and how to share, take turns and be mindful of our space and bodies are so crucial for kids! Swipe to see all the fun ways we are working on strength, prewriting skills, letter identification, cutting and more! Safety is always of the utmost importance during our groups and individual sessions. Contact us now for groups forming in January! #pediatricot #play #handwritingwithouttears
We SO appreciate each and every one of you! Our Sensational kiddos, their families, our staff, followers, friends and colleagues! #smallbusinesssupport #occupationaltherapy #sensoryintegration
Home programs but make them fun! Do you have some kids who are really reluctant to do their OT exercises or sensory diet at home? This fun pumpkin craft helped motivate this particular child. We took turns picking exercises that he will do this week and he gets a cute pumpkin craft to put on display! It’s a win-win! #pediatricot #sensorydiet #finemotorskills
Here's Miss Jill with some helpful tips on managing and preventing meltdowns.
Meet Julie! She is one of our front office coordinators and a key player of our team! She has likely helped you with scheduling or you have seen her smiling face greeting you at the desk! "I just celebrated my two year anniversary at Sensational Development in September! I love coming to work because every day is a new experience. I love to watch the kids grow and see their smiling faces. As a mother of two, it brings me joy to see how they progress and reach their goals. Ou...r occupational therapists are very special people. They amaze me with their compassion, creativity, loving spirit and passion for the work they do. They are a true inspiration! When I am not greeting and welcoming our families, I volunteer much of my time at my children's schools, participating in many fundraisers and school events. I also love to spend time on or near the water with my family and friends, whether it is at the beach, in the pool or on the boat."
Hang on tight, the weekend is almost here! Look to Nora if you need some sensory strategies to get through Friday! Nora recommends some vestibular input (i.e swinging) paired with some heavy work (using her muscles to hang on to the swing!). #pediatricot #vestibularinput
Fall Fridays call for Fall themed fine motor activities! Using Qtips to paint is a great way to promote a tripod grasp and hand strength. This particular child had a more neutral angle at the wrist so we used a slant board to promote wrist extension for better positioning. Swipe to see his before and after using the slant board! #finemotorfriday #pediatricot #slantboard
Looking forward to joining Donna Quinn Kimick from Lakeshore Lactation on Monday!!
