The acronym (IEP) stands for Individual Education Plan. An IEP is an important legal document introduced into school systems back in 1975. It gives children with disabilities the right to an education. The school district team creates the IEP, and parents are involved in the process. Before finalizing an IEP, related service specialists (e.g., OT, PT, SP) evaluates the child. Once evaluations are completed, the IEP meeting takes place with the team, focusing on the student's needs and parent's concerns. It is essential parents are familiar with their child's IEP. It is reviewed yearly with the team. By law, parents get a copy with a clear understanding of what's in it. Do you know what's in your child's IEP?
