We welcome you to consider serving or to nominate someone else at your business to be on the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Board. Nominees do not have to be a business owner to be nominated or even be a full time employee, but the business does need to be a member of the Chamber. Serving on a board in the community is a great way to give your employees a...n opportunity to step into a leadership role within your organization and in the community at large. The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce particularly welcomes nominations of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color as well as other minoritized groups. Nominations of women and nonbinary individuals are similarly encouraged. All nominations must be made by the end of the day, Friday, December 11, 2020 for consideration by the nominating committee.

No one wants to cook every day. It's exhausting! That's why I'm so thankful for the number of local restaurants. Not only does having these great places around mean I occasionally get a break in the evening, but restaurants and bars often act as social gathering places. A place to catch up and vent while grabbing a drink or bite to eat. During a global pandemic though, when capacity is limited and some people would prefer not to mingle indoors, it's even more important to su...pport these local venues. I don't want to come out on the other side of COVID with no eateries around because I learned in college that, while it might sustain me for a while, I can't actually live off of ramen noodles. Local restaurants also give back to the community in big ways. This year has been tough. With a global pandemic causing stay-at-home-orders, travel advisories, capacity limits, and temporary shut-downs, people and businesses have suffered. These effects have slowed down our usual business cycle and had a huge effect on local and regional economies. So, supporting local is more important now than ever before. For the months of November and December, the Chamber is advocating for supporting local in all ways, shapes, and forms: Local Arts!... Local Shopping! Local Dining! Local Wellness! Local History! Take a moment to consider if your next online purchase, big-box store visit, or service could instead go to a local business, because supporting local businesses in turn supports local economies and communities! If you find yourself supporting local in Saranac Lake, share via social media and use #SupportLocalSL to encourage others to do the same. In Saranac Lake, Hotel Transylvania will be shown at the Lake Flower Plaza (Coakley/Dunkin' parking lot) on Friday, October 30 at 6:30 p.m. Big thanks to Good Guy Productions, ROOST, Champlain National Bank, Little Italy, and the Saranac Lake Teachers' Association for making this possible.
