Southampton Youth Bureau 18.01.2021

The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau will be sponsoring a Virtual Talent Show on Friday, January 22nd on Facebook & Instagram @southamptonyb (Time of show TBA). Performers in grades 5 12 are encouraged to submit a 3 4 minute video of a performance in singing, music composition, spoken word, dance, skits, comedy, or magic to showcase their talent! Show will include a gift card raffle for performers and trivia prizes for audience members tuning in. Video entries and registration forms are due Friday, January 15th and can be sent via email to [email protected]. The Southampton Youth Bureau will be sponsoring a Basketball Clinic at Southampton Youth Services (SYS), 1370a Majors Path every Friday from 5:00pm - 7:00pm (January 15th March 12th). Clinic is open to grades 7 - 12 and cost is $20/9 sessions. Limited transportation is available from the Flanders Youth Center, 655 Flanders Road. Bus will leave at 4:15pm and will return at 7:30pm. Pre-registration is required and space is limited to 20 participants! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, face masks must be worn at all times. Can spiderwebs support the weight of a person? Join us as we learn through experiments and projects! This past Saturday, October 3rd, the Southampton Youth Bureau’s Youth Advisory Committee participated in the Great East End Clean-Up. The group decided to focus clean-up efforts under the overpass by Shinnecock Canal in Hampton Bays and managed to fill a truckload’s worth of litter and debris. We are happy to have participated and look forward to helping again!

The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau is now accepting registration for their ‘Girl Talk’ program. Girl Talk is a safe place for young women in grades 5 - 8 to get together to discuss topics such as self-esteem, emotions, stress, coping, bullying, and gender stereotyping while also having fun with activities such as crafts, games, cooking, community service, and more! Registration is now open for The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau’s Youth and Government program. Youth & Government is sponsored by the Alliance of NYS YMCAs and is a national program that involves teens in state-organized, model-government programs. Students in grades 9 - 12 will have the opportunity to practice experiential civic engagement and learn about the democratic process. Youth will discuss and debate issues that affect citizens of New York State and will get a c...hance to attend the state conference with youth from across New York. Southampton Town’s Youth Court is a very popular program and a great way to earn community service credits and build your college resume. High school students from local schools work together to hold real trials for juvenile offenders, where all the facts of the case are heard and the jury decides on a disposition, or sentence, for the offender to repair the harm that they have caused to the victims. Cases range from trespassing, driving without a license, underage drinki...ng to harassment, possession, and theft - among others. Any teen in grades 9 - 12 living in the Town of Southampton can participate. Students who are interested in becoming an attorney, improving public speaking skills, learning about the justice system, building their college/job resume or just enjoy community service are invited to join. General youth court meetings are held in a hybrid format every other Monday via Zoom and in person. A new member training will be held on Saturday, October 17th from 9:00am 3:00pm at the Flanders Youth Center, 655 Flanders Road. Space is limited to the first 18 registrants First come, first served! The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau is recruiting new members for their Youth Advisory Committee for the 2020 2021 school year! If you are in grades 7th through 12th and interested in planning trips and events, doing community service projects, and making friends with students from other schools, then sign up for YAC! As a YAC member, you can make a difference in your community. Community service projects may include leaf raking for senior citizens, hosting a clothing dri...ve, participating in fundraisers for other youth organizations, meeting with elected officials for youth causes, or other activities that can make a difference in our community. Youth Advisory Committee is a great way to get involved and to earn community service credit hours during the school year. A hybrid of in person and remote meetings will be held every other Tuesday from 6:30pm 8:00pm. The first in person meeting begins September 22nd 2020 at the Hampton Bays Community Center, 25 Ponquogue Avenue. Pre-registration is required! Transportation is available upon request.
