Our Carols for the Community event this afternoon was interrupted by an armed individual, who set off a round of gunfire into the air from our front steps. Thankfully, no injuries were reported among the attendees and the suspect is in custody. It is horrible that our choir’s gift to New York City, a much-needed afternoon of song and unity, was cut short by this shocking act of violence. We will remain strong, together, and serve as a safe space for prayer, meditation and celebration during the upcoming holiday season. We are grateful to our first responders, and our prayers are with all those affected by this event.

The Cathedral will celebrate Christmas Eve with an online Service of Lessons and Carols on December 24. In this video, Artist in Residence David Briggs plays J.S. As the conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region continues, we pray for peace and a cessation of violence between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This Thursday at 1pm: Women in Sculpture at the Cathedral. Take a close look at two of the Cathedral’s most special sculptures: Christa by Edwina Sandys and the Memorial to September 11th sculpture by Meredith Bergmann. Guided by a Cathedral Educator, you’ll have the opportunity to take a mid-day break and spend time looking closely at these two remarkable pieces. Tickets are $10/person. This evening at 5:30, all are invited to join the Cathedral and interfaith community for Mourning Into Unity. Beginning with a prayer vigil drawing from world faith traditions and ending with a candle-lit procession through the neighborhood, we'll come together to mourn the toll of the coronavirus pandemic and grow in unity towards a fairer, more just society.
