December reading: two novels with lovely sentences and one amazing translation of a 9th century work about what we now know as depression and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The genius of people who had none of our modern tools but were able to figure out the inner workings of the mind is astonishing. It also tells us that human suffering is part of the human condition; it has been observed throughout history. But suffering is not always a bad word. It is painful, yes, but it i...s also often the source of growth and wisdom. Reframing suffering as part of the full spectrum of the human condition can help us traverse moments of struggle with hope. #poughkeepsietherapist #sukoontherapy #therapistofinstagram #cbt #cbttherapy #cbttherapist #cognitivebehaviouraltherapy #ancientwisdom #thoughtsfromyourtherapist #readingisfundamental #therapyworks #depressionhelp #leavetheworldbehind #pew #hudsonvalleytherapist #foodforthought #reframingthoughts #reframeyourthoughts #albalkhi #sustenanceofthesoul #rumaanalam #bookstagram #feedyoursoul #fullspectrumhuman See more

So many people come to therapy to get fixed and walk out knowing they were never damaged to begin with. There is no right way to react to pain, loss, trauma and grief. Relationships are hard and often leave scars that need healing. As you go through life your experiences shape the lens you use to view the yourself. Learn to catalog the innate gifts that led you to survive and thrive. Get comfortable with naming them, owning them, and knowing that they are what makes you a whole person no matter what your current struggle.

Suffering happens when life delivers pain that shakes us to the core, when it challenges our fundamental sense of safety in the world. Suffering is pain that persists and leaves us having to face a life that looks completely different from what we expected. It forces us to redefine our sense of purpose and meaning in life. Finding ways to accept and integrate the realities that bring suffering can be extremely empowering and give us a renewed sense of agency. ... #suffering #painandsuffering #therapywisdom #therapist #dutchesscountytherapist #greatbooks #couragetosuffer #knowyourstuff #strengthenenlightenheal #embracethejourney #findmeaning #fullspectrumhuman #poughkeepsieny #sukoontherapy

From youthful heartbreak to the deaths of grandparents and eventually parents, life is full of events that hurt us. While such emotional pain is difficult, it is usually: explainable resolves or lessens over time effects one area of life... While we cannot avoid pain, we can learn to cope with it and grow from it. Honoring our pain and learning to accept it while still moving beyond what hurts us is what resilience looks like. Only through fully honoring our emotions, good or bad, can we become Full Spectrum Humans. #resilience #pain #growthmindset #therapywisdom #painandsuffering #lifespan #sukoontherapy #knowyourstuff #psychology #psychotherapy #strengthresiliencehealing #therapyfacts #alwayslearning #greatbooks #couragetosuffer #booksthatteach #therapylessons #fullspectrumhuman

Depression isn’t simply the absence of happiness. While it can often feel like persistent sadness, it can also present as a lack of interest and feelings all together. You may be feeling hopeless and empty or just plain tired. That feeling of numbness is also a symptom of depression. Depression is not simply a lack of gratitude or a weak mind, it is not something you can just get over. It often requires professional help and in some cases may require on going, long term tre...atment. The goal of treating depression is not to make you happy all the time. It is to help you feel engaged and capable of riding the emotional waves of a full life, to feel vital and alive and meaningful. #stopthestigma #depressionhelp #depressionawareness #helpisavailable #noshamenoguilt #vitality #feelingsarenottheenemy #sukoontherapy #poughkeepsietherapist #dutchesscountytherapists #mentalhealthcounseling #mentalhealthnewyork #therapy See more
