SUNY Orange Architecture 09.07.2020

Please join us for one evening, two great events! 5:30pm Opening Reception: Systems + Space Join us for our 6th annual open house and exhibition featuring models, drawings & constructions by SUNY Orange Architecture students.... Rowley Center Architecture Gallery, 3rd Floor 7pm Alumni Lecture Chris Mansfield: Architecting Change The topic of architecture’s role in social change initiatives is one that has been hotly debated in past years. Is architectural design a valuable instrument for bringing about change? Do architects have a social responsibility to address these concerns in their projects? What is the process for designing in a way that effectively brings about change? The Building Hope project is an example of a developed attempt at applying architectural design as a direct tool to bring about real change in a specific community in Honduras. The lecture will discuss general application of social change in architecture and design, as well as specifics of the Building Hope project’s particular attempts. Included in the discussion are some of the challenges, failures, and successes the project has had in its venture to bring about change. Rowley Center Forum, ground floor 1 hour PDH/CEU credit available for Engineers & Architects
