"A treaty aimed at destroying all nuclear weapons and forever prohibiting their use has hit an important benchmark, with Honduras becoming the 50th country to ratify the accord the minimum needed for it to enter into force as international law. The United Nations announced late Saturday that the ratification threshold had been achieved, a little more than three years after the treaty was completed in negotiations at the organization’s New York headquarters. Secretary Genera...l António Guterres said the 50th ratification was the culmination of a worldwide movement to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons is not binding on those nations that refuse to sign on to it. The United States and the world’s eight other nuclear-armed countries Russia, China, Britain, France, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel boycotted the negotiations that created the treaty and have shown no inclination to accept it."

National Grid is pushing to raise utility rates by July 2021. This means that our electric and gas bills will see an increase (4% and 6% respectively), just when working people are most affected by the economic consequences of the pandemic. This will generate a total revenue of 140 million dollars for the British multinational. National Grid says it needs to raise prices because they want to "modernize its gas and electric infrastructure", which experts read as an excuse for expanding its methane gas pipelines. Join Syracuse DSA, Alliance for a Green Economy, and other allies at 5pm at 300 Erie Blvd W. This debate season, listen to Palestiniansnot presidential candidates! Our current moment demands no less: radical solidarity with Palestinians means centering... decolonizationnot the same reformist frameworks. That’s why U.S. Palestinian leaders and organizationsbacked by 50+ solidarity movement orgshave released a letter to Congress demanding they #CenterPalestinians & their demands. A humanitarian approach seeks to apply a bandage to a gaping wound that should instead be healed by ending the blockade and creating true justice in policy. Only when Palestinian voices are centered in determining their futures can their hopes for freedom and justice can be realized. It’s time to demand divestment from harm and violence & investment in our communities’ needs. Tweet at your reps now to demand Congress stop sending $3.8B yer pear in military funding to Israel freedomfuture.org/tweet No Twitter? No problem!
