Did you know that compassion can make your child a better coder? From managing stress to collaborating with others, empathy is an essential skill for the coders of tomorrow. We spoke with April Wensel, CEO of Compassionate Coding, about this revolutionary approach to computer science and how to encourage compassion in kids. Happy Halloween to all the ghouls and boos out there! As you troll the neighborhood looking for tricks and treats, don't be afraid of the dark... Why not? Because in addition to Halloween, today is also #DarkMatterDay, a day devoted to the study of all that remains unseen and unknown in the universe. Did you know that stars, planets, and galaxies make up just 4.9 percent of the total mass and energy of the universe? That means there's A LOT out there yet to be discovered. Find out how you can celebrate Dark Matter Day this Halloween at the link: https://www.darkmatterday.com/ #Halloween #allhallowseve #october31 #darkmatter #stem #steam #mysteriesoftheuniverse

Teacher Spotlight Say hello to Deeksha! What words of wisdom does she have for coding students? Deeksha points to a quote from Voltaire: "Perfection is the enemy of good." Why? "It's so easy to get caught up in wanting things to be perfect on the first try that we end up not doing or learning something at all." This is especially important for coding students, who need grit and determination to find solutions to the problems they encounter. "Coding is like learning a new language. It helps improve communication and critical thinking skills and encourages creativity. It's a great skill to have no matter what field kids are interested in." #teacher #teacherspotlight #thecodingspace #coding #coders #code #programming #education #kidswhocode #girlcode #tech #computerscience #fall2020

Want a chance to check out one of our classes for free? Join us today at 5pm EST on KidPass for a very special Halloween themed coding demo for beginners! This live, 30-minute class will combine project-based coding for beginners with STEAM-based, hands-on activities. We'll play a game, dive into coding through the MIT-created Scratch platform, and finish up with a spook-tacular physical activity. Classes are recommended for kids ages 6 and up. Kids don't need anything to participate, but if they'd like to code along with our instructor they'll need access to a computer and the internet.
