Brian Irr: Making Newfane proud at the Olympics!

In case you have seen groups of second graders walking around town, here is what they have been doing as told by teacher Amy Brown: I wanted to let you know abo...ut a walking field trip that we do with our Second graders that you may not know about.. Each child gets a clipboard, marker, and a laminated list of businesses in the Newfane (Main Street) area. We walk from the elementary school, North on Transit, West on Charlotteville, then South on Main Street. Along the way, we check off about 30 places we see. Ex., Faith Lutheran Church, Newfane Rehab Facility, Sherrie Funeral Home, Artisan Alley, Newfane Dental, Bill’s Diner, CarStar, etc. We talk about what you do/buy/get from each place. We stop at the library for about a half hour to have Miss Kris read to us and tell us about the library. Then we move on the Community Center to eat either a packed lunch from home or a Chinese lunch from Food King. After lunch we continue on from Main Street to McKee abs back to school. The kids love seeing all the places in our town and they LOVE the checklist!!!!! Just wanted to share this wonderful (free) field trip our Second Grade does each year in the spring!

The Newfane Town Hall is temporarily closed due to taking preventative COVID-19 measures to keep our community and employees safe. We are having the building professionally deep cleaned and will reopen as soon as possible. The planning board meeting for Monday, December 7th has been postponed.

The Town of Newfane has set trick or treating hours for October 31st from 4-7pm. For those wishing to participate, please leave your porch light on.

Newfane Halloween Light Up If you would like your address to be part of our Newfane Halloween Light Up contest, post your address on the Newfane Business... Association Facebook page, in the comments area under the Light Up Addresses post If you would just want to be a drive-by viewer, check the Newfane Business Association Facebook page for addresses under the Light Up Addresses post. If you would like to submit your favorite displays, check the Hometown Extra newspaper ad which will go out the Thursday before Halloween, for a ballot. These can be dropped off at Artisan Alley at 2714 Main St., Newfane. Winners will be announced the following week on the Newfane Business Association Facebook page. as well as the Town’s Face Book page.
