When you reduce life to black & white, you never see rainbows. #pride2021 #pridemonth #lgbtqtheatre #lgbtqtheater #nycactors #lgbtqactors
Ever feel like life should come with a reset button? I think we could’ve all used one for most of middle school. When it comes to acting, though, I always know the acumulation of mistakes is what truly makes a great actor. It never fails to shape past blunders into necessary learning. Stop believing you need to start over, your timing is perfect.
When people discuss classic films, we too often are talking about Standard White American Classic Films. ...the films that everyone knows, no matter your background. This isn't a call to arms to go watch Black '90s Cinema -- it's an invitation to leave your comfort zone. Juneteenth should push open your perspective just a bit, if not.... it's merely performative.... INTENT and EXECUTION in civil rights has always left a gap in the lives of marginalized communities. Similar to this newly recognized federal holiday happening at the same time as banning the very topic being taught in schools. In these gaps is Black Communities still create beauty.... from Black Cinema --created from the lack of representation, to many genres of music, to Black Wall Street. WHAT IS JUNETEENTH? On June 19, 1865, Gordon Granger, a Union general, arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform 250,000 enslaved African-Americans of their freedom announced by the Emancipation Proclamation, more than two and a half years earlier on Jan. 1, 1863. "Educate yourself on what this nation was actually founded upon. Learn about the lived experiences of Black people, LGBTQ people, women, and many other marginalized groups; it may not be a pleasant realization, but it is necessary. Arming ourselves with information is the best way to win the fight for equality." Dr. Tiffany Jana
Where are my fellow dreamers, and what big dreams are you dreaming these days? Most actors start with goals as big as their dreams and quickly realize there’s no clear path to what you want. Instead of being frustrated by that Be inspired! Know that there’s no special path, and if it’s for you it will come. Take the next step that feels right and trust that the universe in moving in your favor.
Would you like to know what’s our student’s FAVORITE class? It’s our Scene Study with Artistic Director Peter Jensen! Considered some of the best scene study classes in New York City, Peter Jensen’s class is a favorite with award-nominated actors and television series regulars. It’s the class you rarely see on our newsletters or social posts because its an ongoing class and actors rarely leave.... With the weather getting warmer we have a few openings. What are you waiting for, friend? Get your application in today! It’s an INT/ADV class so we can’t promise you a spot, but something tells us you’d be perfect for this class.
We have the best scene partners in our scene study classes. But we all have our days? Tag an actor friend and let them guess which one you think they are!

Focus on the effort, not the outcome.
Is it just us or does celebrating Martin Luther King Jr today, look a little different? As we watch closely the next few days, remember where this journey started, and know we're proud to stand together as we continue moving forward.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint, Isn't just a saying. As you study the career paths of so many actors, you learn how much this is a business just like any other. This should be empowering for you. There isn’t some nebulous, magical, hidden secret to success. Being a good person while putting forth tremendous effort over time really does pay off.
Which shows have you seen at the Minskoff Theatre?
5 years ago when the world was such a different place, Lanford Wilson's brilliant play Hot l Baltimore, was getting ready to end its run at our theater on the 7th floor on 26th Street. Alexandra's character, the girl, asks what will happen with the ghosts when they tear down the hotel? And when the studio moved to the 10th floor, the spirits of many brilliant actors came with us and remain in everyone's hearts to this day. I'd like to think of that for all the people who ha...ve been lost to this deadly pandemic. Thank you Lanford Wilson for reminding us of that beautiful question in the play. Miss all of you and hope everyone is safe and healthy.

We're hardly the only acting school out there. But we have something different to offer. For 50+ years we have been training working actors in NYC. We are known for our community that connects artists & build relationships. Sound like something you’d be into? We'd love to have you join us!
Congrats to one of our Conservatory Alumni Robby Ramos on his recurring role on Heels on Stars! We can't wait to watch. #TSSAlumni
