Food Apartheid, formerly known as food deserts, make it difficult for more than 24 million Americans to access affordable, healthy food. Many solutions to this systematic issue have been proposed. One of these solutions is community gardens, which are not only fun sustainable centers, but also can provide thousands of pounds of fresh produce to the communities they belong to each year. Our Eco-reps program works closely with community gardens both within the campus community and greater Rochester community! - Dani Getz

The essence of a guide or mentor in the learning process Many successful people do not reinvent the wheel. That means one needs to learn from the right people. Most of the time, one has two choices, which are:... --To learn the hard way --follow what is working When people learn a new skill, they are reluctant to look for a proven mentor. They want to do everything by themselves. Almost every time they feel lost and overwhelmed. It is confusing at first to create a consistent learning habit. The odds of success in learning are slim when one does not have a mentor or guide. This means that without a mentor, no support group and no help, one makes a lot of mistakes. Today’s Questions How can one get a mentor/guide when learning an unfamiliar area of specialization? What platform can you recommend for learning communication skills? #communicationskills# #studentsoflinkedin #betterthanyesterday

https://www.gofundme.com/save-grow-green-rochester The property Grow Green Rochester is being sold off by the board of directors because the Southwest Area Neig...hborhood Association programs need more income to keep going. Unfortunately the property is the way they can do this. An offer has been made to the board for a little less than the fundraiser amount. Our goal is to make a better offer and keep Grow Green alive! The greenhouse, food forest, community garden plots, student garden plots, community activity area, and other kinds of garden beds would all be demolished is the sale goes forward. There has been a proposal of moving the greenhouse to the roof of the building that would be built in its spot but this would mean legality issues in bringing the students to a rooftop, it would remove the accessibility to handicapped or homeless garden members, we would loose the entire food forest- along with many established fruit trees and bushes, it would remove the donation area and blessings box, and it would also remove our free community composting program. We realize this is quite a lot of money. But we truly believe in this program and this community and want to continue offering free food, free educational programs, and a free welcoming community space for years to come. Even if you can't donate, please share. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, The Grow Green Team Grow Green is a program initiated by the Southwest Area Neighborhood Association (SWAN) in Rochester, New York, with a focus on engaging youth in urban agriculture and helping eliminate food deserts in the community. Everything we grow is given out to those who need it at no cost.
