Thomas Ciucci, Ph.D., was just 12 when he fell in love with science after extracting DNA from lentils using salt and soap. He is part of our Wilmot Cancer Institute research team, studying immune cells, known as T cells, hoping to manipulate the immune system to clear cancer. "It's just a matter of time," he says about the innovative treatment approach. Read his story: https://bit.ly/3oPzj0l #URochesterResearch... (Photo taken prior to the pandemic.)

New York State expanded eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine to people with many chronic conditions beginning Feb. 15. This is good news for many of our patients. However, please wait to contact your doctor about verifying medical conditions until the State and local health officials provide further direction. Keep in mind, vaccine supply and distribution changes frequently. Here’s what we know now: Vaccine doses remain extremely limited. If you are eligible to receive a... vaccine, please go to flvaccinehub.com to find a vaccine clinic. UR Medicine is focusing on vaccinating health care workers, as directed by NYS. We will provide updates here, on our website and our MyChart patient portal. We know many people are eager to get vaccinated and we thank you for your patience. See more

Researchers restarted a COVID-19 vaccine study this week. After voluntarily pausing the trial last month, the FDA and an independent board thoroughly reviewed the trial and found it safe to resume. The trial is now running worldwide and URMC researchers expect to vaccinate about 500 volunteers in the next few weeks. https://fal.cn/3bcq9 #URochesterResearch
