It's been a busy few weeks here across Kaleida Health! We began offering the COVID-19 vaccine to eligible employees on a voluntary basis on December 14. We continue to work with the NYSDOH to receive doses and determine who is eligible. Our goal is to ultimately offer the vaccine to any employee that would like one. We do not know the timing of when the vaccine will be offered to our patients or the general public but will be sure to share updates as we receive them. The vaccine is such a crucial step in to help stop the spread of #COVID19. http://ow.ly/prPO50D3sc2

Yesterday we began offering the #COVID19Vaccine to our Visiting Nursing Association of WNY clinical staff. We continue to work with the NYS Department of Health to roll out the vaccines to our employees as efficiently as possible. The vaccine plays such an important role in helping to stop the spread of #COVID19.

Home Health Nurse at the Visiting Nursing Association of WNY, Lori Cortez was one of the first staff members deployed to assist at our COVID-19 testing sites. Lori flourished in this role and under her leadership at one point the site was seeing upwards of 250 patients per day. Lori said, ‘COVID has been tough on all of us. If I can help make the testing experience a little easier for someone then I know I’m doing my part. Especially kids, if they’re scared, I do everything I can do try to calm them down.’ Please consider donating $21 to our COVID-19 relief fund to help Lori and the team at the VNA of WNY at www.gifttohealth.com

Flu vaccine prevents millions of illnesses and flu-related doctor’s visits each year. For example, the CDC reports that during 2018-2019, flu vaccination prevented an estimated 4.4 million influenza illnesses, 2.3 million influenza-associated medical visits, 58,000 influenza-associated hospitalizations, and 3,500 influenza-associated deaths.
