I took the soil temperature today. It's 33f, which means that if you still have daffodils or tulips or peonies sitting that you didn't get around to planting this fall, now is the time to get it done! As long as you can stick a shovel into the dirt, you can put in those bulbs and roots!
It's that time of the year again!! We're putting together our shopping list for the spring and although we're always looking for new/unique perennials and shrubs, we also want to make sure that we get enough of popular things. This spring we ran out! So, it will be of great help if we can gauge interest in a particular group of things - in this case, fruiting bushes and trees. Here's a link for a poll. Thanks a lot! https://doodle.com/poll/ydkxbnpfsbqhkst4
If you have hydrangeas which blossom on new wood (aka, "panicle hydrangeas" , hydrangeas with cone shaped flower heads rather than snowballs), now is a going time to prune them down. You can wait for spring, but I like to tidy things before we get heavy wet snow which can bend the branches. You need to be brave about this. See how much I cut off mine:
If you're feeling blue about the end of the season, remember now 8a good time to get the trimming chores out of the way: lavender (and mulch ), full sun/blooming on new wood hydrangeas, grasses.
