Remembering the Summer of 2020

Writers & Books 15.06.2021

Summer camp is looking different this year. We are living in a time of unprecedented reckoning. A global pandemic has turned our world upside down. Reading prompts us to understand perspectives different from our own and helps us feel less alone when we connect with words that describe our own experiences. We’ll look to the work of others who are writing, performing, and speaking out. And we’ll participate in a wide range of writing activities, from journaling to open-ended p...rompts, to spoken word to understand uncertain times. Every voice is welcome in this camp. Deadline to Register: July 5, 11:59 pm Ages: 12 - 14 Sessions will meet 3 hours per day from July 12 - July 16

Yes, it might seem a little late in June for an Asian Pacific American Heritage Month reading list. But we are giving you this list with the hopes that you will continue to hear and seek out these voices for a long time to come.

Maybe you have some great ideas for a book. Perhaps you wrote a few chapters but didn't get very far- or maybe your creative spark just needs to be lit! Either way, our camp is the perfect place for new writers to improve their craft and make friends while they do it. We’ll take a hands-on creative approach involving workshops, films, readings, and discussions from literary experts that will teach you how to create plots. You're guaranteed to learn how to make each character ...and character memorable. It’s just like summer camp, but with books! Deadline to Register: July 5, 11:59 pm Ages: 10 - 13 Sessions will meet 4 hours per day from July 12 - July 16

There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in #October. The sunshine is peculiarly genial; and in sheltered places, as on the side of a bank, or of a barn or house, one becomes acquainted and friendly with the sunshine. It seems to be of a kindly and homely nature. And the green grass, strewn with a few withered leaves, looks the more green and beautiful for them. Nathaniel Hawthorne
