From one of our loyal customers: Just one of those childhood things: a cherry-cheese knish. Basically a cheesecake in knish-wrap. I loved it as a kid. As it is, it brings me back every time I eat it. #cherrycheeseknish #knish #cherrycheese #thingswelovedaskids #childhoodtreats
When you can't decide between the 2 classics, Potato and Kasha, split the difference and have 1/2 of each!!

How time flies! Last year, the wonderful Roger Clark broadcast from our shop for NY1's morning show.

https://www.nytimes.com//support-independent-restaurants.h These are very tough times for mom and pop businesses. Whether you own a restaurant, a hardware store or a shoe repair, this pandemic has hit everyone hard. Here's a nice article from today's New York Times about how you can support independent restaurants. We thank all of our many friends around the country for their continued support. Remember, if you live outside the New York area and would like some of our homemade knishes, you can order them online, shipping included, at https://goldbelly.com/yonah-schimmel-knishes/
We've come a long way since Uncle Yonah pushed his cart full of hot potato and kasha #knishes. Still delicious, still filling and still #vegetarian. Stop by this weekend and try one of innovative special knishes! 137 East Houston Street #NYC
It's a little chilly out there today. How about a homemade bowl of pea soup at Yonah Schimmel?
In 1890, Romanian immigrant Yonah Shimmel started selling knishes from a pushcart. This store at 137 East Houston Street was opened in 1910, and it has served the community ever since. Stores like this have disappeared along with the changing taste of our city. All I can say is that Yonah Shimmel is as relevant a place today as it ever was. Still family operated, friendly, and has great knishes, kugel and latkes. You can't ask for more!! I took this picture in November 2019. Construction going on next door made me wonder what will happen to a place like this down the road, but I can only hope they stick around forever. If you're in the city, stop by and order something. If not, you can get their knishes delivered through Goldbelly. Happy Tuesday!!
