A letter from Dr. Paul Caruso... To Our Patients, Parents and Friends, I am happy to announce that I am returning to my orthodontic roots at Furino & Hamlin Orthodontics! Thirteen years ago, I began my career under the mentorship of Drs. Furino and Hamlin working with them from 2006-2008. Since that time, I have been serving the orthodontic needs of the Herkimer, Cooperstown and Oneonta areas. Now, after more than 35 years in practice, Dr. Hamlin has retired, and Dr. Furino ...is stepping back to a position where he can lessen his workload once he returns from treating a chronic back problem. As a result, I have acquired Furino & Hamlin Orthodontics. I have deep roots in our community, having been born and raised here, graduating from Notre Dame High School. I completed my general dental training at the University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and received my orthodontic training at the University of Rochester’s Eastman Institute of Oral Health. I have been a part of our local dental community for the last 25 years building many relationships along the way. I look forward to continuing the relationships that I have built over that time and developing many new ones. I am committed to delivering the same excellent orthodontic treatment that I have always strived for and that you have come to expect from Drs. Furino and Hamlin. I would also like to introduce you to my two associates, Dr. Cynthia Micaroni and Dr. Leah Normatova. Cynthia is a native of Whitesboro who received her dental education at the University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She completed her orthodontic training at the University of Rochester’s Eastman Institute of Oral Health and is a board eligible orthodontist. She now resides in New Hartford with her husband Dr. Patrick Micaroni, a pediatric dentist, who has joined the practice of Dr. Norman Cognetto. We were excited to have Cynthia return home and become part of our team! Leah is originally from Jamaica Estates, New York. She attended St John’s University and then completed her dental training at Columbia University School of Dental Medicine, graduating with honors. She completed her orthodontic training at Rutgers University and is a Board Certified Orthodontist. Since 2015, she has practiced at Vitagliano Orthodontics in Massapequa. Leah and her husband Dr. Mark Pinkhasov, a gastroenterologist, relocated to our area and we couldn’t be more ecstatic to welcome these two wonderful professionals to our community! We are excited about this transition and remain completely committed to what we unanimously agree is the most important part of our practice our patients. To my patients, parents and friends, It’s with a heavy heart that I must inform you of a recent change in my work schedule. Due to persistent back problems, I must step away from the office for an unspecified time in order to deal with the situation. After having the pleasure of treating all my wonderful patients for thirty-seven years, it is difficult for me to stop doing something I love. While I am addressing my back issues, it gives me great peace of mind to bring into ...the office Drs. Caruso, Normatova and Micaroni. Each of these doctors has stellar credentials and a wonderful demeanor when dealing with patients. In the upcoming weeks you will see their friendly faces in the office. It was a beautiful night for baseball, and we had the pleasure of watching our Furino & Hamlin little league team play! They agreed to a quick photo shoot after the game - thank you to the team, coaches and parents for a fun evening!
