With a beautiful blue backdrop, the 4530 crew cuts holes in the roof ventilation simulator at station 2.
Firefighting requires physical ability and specific skill sets like those of an athlete. To achieve and maintain these skills, our members, like professional athletes, train or practice in rigorous, realistic settings. This past weekend we sent firefighters to a premiere search class put on by Take the Door Training, a company run by our brothers and sisters from Syracuse FD.
HOWARD RD @ HINCHEY RD- VEHICLE FLIPPED WITH A PERSON TRAPPED ****Please avoid the area at this time.
We would like to welcome our newest firefighter, Matt Nauerth. Matt will be assigned to Group 1, 4530. We wish you a long, successful career in service of the citizens of the Town of Gates!
We would like to extend our thanks to Nick Tahou's for sending over some delicious garbage plates today! They really took care of us with some great food, and we took care of the great food they sent. A big bottle of ketchup was even included so we didn't have to steal any from the other groups refrigerator. Thank you friends!
The group 2 HQ crew is all dressed up and ready to go!
Window bail out training at our station 3. Here is FF Yale practicing his technique as he hooks, hangs, and goes out the window prop!
Oh you have a dalmation as a fire house pet? That's cool bro...
Group 2 performing rope rescue evolutions off the roof of our Coldwater Road firehouse. In this evolution a stokes basket and rescuer are sent over the edge. A victim is placed into the basket and both are brought back up to an elevated roof level. Training such as this helps keep our firefighters proficient at the highest level should an actual rope emergency occur!
NYS law requires our firefighters to carry self-escape rope systems on our person. This allows for quick escape from an elevated level if interior conditions were to become untenable. Here is a video of group 1 FF Nardone performing a "bail-out" manuever at our station 3.
When our members attend outside training, they bring back the information and teach it to everyone. Here, one of our members is teaching his company one of the skills he learned in the new NYS Rope Technician course that was recently held in Montour Falls.
A major fire at the Viking apartments in Brockport yesterday brought out three Gates units to assist. 4530 and 4522 worked the scene and 4532 staged as an additional resource. The fire displaced many residents and caused at least two injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Another huge success for charity! The Gates Professional Firefighters & Dispatchers Local 3792 are proud to announce that $6,425.61 was raised at our 2nd annual charity golf event! We would like to thank all of our sponsors, players and Salmon Creek Country Club for their support. The money raised will support our Operation Warm campaign providing youth in the Town of Gates winter jackets. We also will be able to support the Joe Manuse Residential Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Foundation. This foundation will allow fire departments to purchase smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for our areas residential homes. We look forward to seeing everyone next year!
A birthday parade was held yesterday for our friend Landon! https://13wham.com//gates-boy-fighting-cancer-celebrates-2
Let’s talk about microwaves! Microwaves are a fast and easy way to heat up a meal in no time without the use of a stove top or oven... but did you know, it doe...sn’t take much for something in the microwave to catch on fire! Some common causes of fires in the microwave are over heated food or packaging, arcing of metal pieces or foil bags, and heating of improper non-food products. If you have a fire in the microwave, turn it off immediately and keep the door closed. Do not open the door until the fire is completely out. If you do not feel comfortable with opening the microwave, are unsure what to do, or the fire begins to spread to outside the microwave, get out of your home immediately and call 9-1-1! If you have any questions concerning fire safety in your home, feel free to contact the Gates Fire District Community Risk Reduction Office at any time!
It appears there may be a pot of gold at our headquarters station after the rain!
Our new ladder truck arrives early 2021. It will have more ladders than this unit...
