Today, we caught up with senior Studio Art major Emmalyn Mulindwa while she was in the Ortlip Gallery talking about her collection for the Senior Art Show, which includes a mix of pottery pieces and her paintings. Art majors at Houghton culminate their studies with the Senior Art Exhibition, which is currently running in the Ortlip Gallery. The 10th annual Kindshi Faith and Justice Symposium at Houghton College begins today and runs through Friday. This year, the symposium will focus on The Church & Global Health: The Body of Christ Ministering to Broken Bodies. The symposium will feature interviews with and lectures from scholars and practitioners working at the intersection of health and religion. Topics will include responses from individuals, institutions, and churches from around the globe to COVID-19, HIV/AIDS, health disparities, and other global health challenges. Houghton College is excited to announce receipt of a $67,000 grant through KABOOM! and the #BuiltToPlay Initiative supported by the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation to construct the KPAC KidsZone. The KPAC KidsZone is designed around inclusivity and safety, bringing play features to a part of the campus frequented by children and inviting them to engage with Houghton College and each other in creative ways. The KPAC KidsZone brings bouldering play, pickleball, four-square, pick...-up sports and digging play to the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex. Located just behind the Burke Field bleachers, this non-traditional play space will provide seating and natural barriers, while restricting access to unsafe areas. In a time when outdoor recreation has become increasingly important, the KPAC KidsZone will play an important role as an intergenerational meeting space where college students, children and adults of all ages can recreate in safe and healthy ways. Construction on the KPAC KidsZone is slated to begin in spring 2021, with a hope to complete installation in the late summer.
