This week we continue to celebrate the engineering behind our designs. #NationalEngineersWeek Project: Cruzen-Murray Library at The College of Idaho Architect: Richärd Kennedy Architects Product: Exterior Stripscreens... At Cruzen-Murray Library, our engineers used robust stainless steel expansion springs + rigging hardware to keep the exterior stripscreen panels under tension, providing stability throughout naturally occurring thermal cycles and air movement. Each corten steel fin - designed to transform and patina over time with exposure to the elements - is angled around the spiraling building to reflect light during the summer and draw in warming sunlight during the winter months, reducing the need to rely on electricity to power mechanical heating and cooling systems.
