The annual NYS burn ban runs March 16th through May 14th. DEC is reminding the public that conditions for wildfires are heightened in springtime when most #wild...fires occur. The annual ban has decreased spring wildfires by nearly 43 % since 2009. More info: https://www.dec.ny.gov/press/122502.html

An interesting video courtesy of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) it depicts a Christmas Tree Fire that Engulfs Room In 30 Seconds. It only takes... 30 seconds for a dry Christmas tree to engulf your room in flames Additionally it important to note that in almost all surveys people believe they have minutes to escape a fire when in all reality they have SECONDS. Think fire safety every day!
Congratulations to Brandi Tubbs on her successful completion of the NYS Firefighter 1 class. Good job, we’re all proud of you!
I live in a small town. Small enough that when bad things happen it's volunteer firefighters who come to the rescue. A moment ago the very loud siren went off l...etting the volunteers know they were needed. I know in 2015 everyone has a cell phone and you could just send out a text but it's a small town so they still do it the old-fashioned way with the siren bellowing out that you can hear for miles. Every time that siren goes off I think two things- 'thank you' to the volunteers who leave their families to go help strangers and I hope whomever needs the help is ok. It's an odd thing really, to sound an alarm letting the entire town know someone is hurt but in a strange way it's kinda cool. It reminds you of days gone by where, when a fire broke out, all the townspeople showed up with a bucket to form a line and help. No matter how advanced our technology becomes or fancy and expensive the gear is, you still need flesh and blood people who are willing to raise their hand and say, "I'll help". God Bless the volunteers and God Speed to whomever needed that siren two minutes ago.
