His lecture will discuss recent issues of legislative importance in Albany. New York State Trial Lawyers are always fighting to preserve the rights of plaintiffs, particularly as they relate to the Labor Law. The program will take place virtually with some portions of the presentation live ...and previously recorded because of the current Covid 19 pandemic. As someone who has attended Decisions every year since 2008 (maybe I missed one!), I must say that it is the best CLE program. Our client, a 32-year-old construction worker, was assigned to complete electrical work in the basement of a project site in downtown New York City. The basement was poorly lit and while running wires, our client accidentally stepped on an unsecure dolly and was caused to fall backwards on pipes and debris left on the basement floor. The plaintiff sustained injuries to his left shoulder, left knee, cervical spine and lumbar spine. As a result of his injuries, plaintiff und...erwent two left shoulder arthroscopies, a left knee arthroscopic surgery and multiple steroid injections to his left shoulder, lumbar spine and cervical spine. Partner Daniela F. Henriques, through expert investigation, was not only able to identify and serve the owners, general contractor and subcontractors liable for the hazardous conditions in the basement, but also the plumbing company specifically responsible for the dolly in question. This case was negotiated over the course of several years and in that time, we not only overcame the defendants’ rebuttals on liability and plaintiff’s time out of work, but furthermore were faced with the challenge of legal issues with one of our client’s primary doctors. Finally, through the collaborative work of partners Edward A. Steinberg and Daniela F. From August 1 and continuing until December 31, 2020, our partner, Edward A. Steinberg, is hosting a RunRaiser: for each mile completed, participants will donate 25 cents to the Child Mind Institute, Jack’s favorite nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of children, families, and communities affected by mental illness and learning disabilities. After agreeing to donate, you will be given access to Mr. Steinberg’s Garmin tracker to see how many miles he’s completed. On average, Mr. Steinberg runs about 25 miles weekly, which adds up to roughly $125 for the duration of the fundraiser. Once completed, you can donate directly to the Child Mind Institute. Yesterday, Chief Judge Janet DiFiore announced the appointment of the Commission to Reimagine the Future of New York's Courts which will explore and advise the judiciary on the enhanced use of technology and online platforms, the delivery and quality of justice services and access to justice.
