For 30 years, the Museum has offered outstanding exhibitions and education programs to the public. When the pandemic forced our temporary closure, we found new ways to connect, with online programming we call "Art with Heart" that includes virtual tours, video art lessons, family art activities and live streamed classes. #NCMAheart Your donation will allow us to play an ever more important role in the community, continuing our mission of offering outstanding exhibitions, e...ducation programs and now expanded online and outdoor programming that provide solace and inspiration especially in these troubled times. Visit https://nassaumuseum.org/support/ to donate. Or text NCMAHEART to 44321 Featured, visitors at The Manes Art and Education Center at NCMA with mural by artist #KennyScharf

Counting down, and it is officially the final weekend to see #NCMAblueperiod. Curated by Director Charles Riley, this show had been set to open on Saturday, March 14, 2020 and was delayed for a safe opening on July 8th when we excitedly greeted visitors to share a viewing experience that our staff had eagerly anticipated. We're continuing to share our #NCMAstaffpicks highlighting works that reflect #moodyblues in our longest exhibition ever! Read below as staffer Julia Suche...r describes #NormanCarton 's abstract expressionist work that relates to the current climate in our great city and overall city life. "My favorite work of art from the exhibition 'blue.' is 'Manhattan Gothic' by Norman Carton. The abstract view of New York City with the blue color scheme evokes a feeling of loneliness that is often associated with big city living. I really love the texture and visual brush strokes on this piece, I also find the combination of warm and cool colors very beautiful. The scale of the painting is also important to the overall impact of the piece. The fact that this painting is large, just like the buildings in NYC, helps evoke the feeling of being small in a large city, which is something that I can relate to." -Julia Sucher, Development Associate . Norman Carton (American,1908-1980) Manhattan Gothic, 1954 Oil on canvas 54 35 inches

Four more days until our exhibit #NCMAblueperiod comes to a close, so we're sharing our #NCMAstaffpicks with you. With a very delayed opening to this exhibit, many from our Museum family reflected on the works during our temporary closure and shared their thoughts on how these works evoked a sense of calm or nostalgia, as Museum Educator, Katie Aragon shares: "One of my favorite artworks in "blue." is Hasui Kawase's woodblock printMountain Temple at Sendai, made in Summer 1...919 fromSeries: Souvenirs of Travel I. It reminds me of evenings outside in August, as the moon just starts to rise and you feel the summer air surrounding you. I love all of the blues, how this limited palette can create such a sense of place and time, and how the shapes of the trees guide you from the forefront of the composition through the rest of the landscape. As I isolate from home, this work brings to mind memories of summers with family and provides a moment of quiet calmness." - Katie Aragon, School and Family Programs See more
