An update from NHS president, Pat Pearce: The Newstead Historical Society (NHS) is extremely grateful for the support of its membership and the community. Due ...to this year’s pandemic, the annual quilt raffle and pie sale, held on the Fourth of July, was postponed until the fall. At the NHS’s board meeting on October 1, the winners of the raffles were drawn. The Pick-a-Pie raffle winner was Dawn Izydorczak. Her chosen lemon meringue pie will be delivered to her in the near future. The Amish quilt was won by Justin Heissenberger of Akron. Congratulations to both winners. A huge thank you to all who purchased tickets and participated in the raffles. This year has been difficult for all business and not-for-profit organizations. The two museums have been closed due to Covid 19 and then the water damage at the Octagon House caused more problems for the society. Money has been a concern for all and having the community’s support for these two raffles has been extremely gratifying. In other news, the Board of Trustees will have two openings for next year. If any person is interested in joining the board, please contact Pat Pearce (542-4191). You must be a NHS member to apply. Here is an update on the Octagon House’s restoration issue. Contractors have viewed the water damage and if interested will be bidding on the restoration project. The board is expecting to receive bids this week. Also a few pieces of furniture have been taken to a shop for cleaning and refinishing. This restoration project will be a slow process but well worth the wait. The community will be kept abreast of progress. See more
