IS YOUR HOME AND FAMILY READY? Did you know... According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), more than one-quarter (27%) of reported fires in 2014-2018 occurred in homes. Even worse, more than three-quarters (77%) of civilian fire deaths and almost three-quarters (73%) of all reported injuries were caused by home fires. Awareness, preparedness and working smoke alarms save lives! Check out this Good Morning America video (which aired on GMA recently) featuri...ng a local family of Greenwich Fire 12834 Public (Greenwich FD) members, who together dedicate much of their time and efforts their community responding to Fire and EMS calls as well as educating those in their community on fire safety! THANK YOU to the Hopkins family and the members of the Greenwich Fire Department for your continued dedication and tireless efforts! Here's the link to the #GMA web story: bit.ly/firesafetywithgnhfd PS (shameless plug ahead ): Kelsey (one of the firefighters featured in the video) is one of our own Public Safety Communications Officers too! PLEASE DO NOT call our Public Health office relative to vaccine, when PODs (Points of Distribution) are open, an announcement will be made on all of our sites / outlets and all scheduling will be done through the state's system online or by phone with the NYS Vaccination Hotline (**launching at 4:00 PM today**) at (833)NYS-4VAX. We caution there will not be vaccine available to all eligible individuals at one time, appointments will be scheduled as vaccine availability will allow. Per the Governor's announcement, at the current rate of supply, it will take approximately 16 weeks to complete vaccine rollout to those currently deemed eligible. I WANT TO BE VACCINATED, WHAT CAN I DO? - Are you eligible? http://bit.ly/COVID19_AmIEligible - No internet access? Not much is the same this year, but it's still Halloween and there are plenty of ways to enjoy in a healthy and safe way. Halloween celebrations and activities, including trick-or-treating, can be filled with fun, but must be done in a safe way to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The best way to celebrate Halloween this year is to have fun with the people who live in your household. Decorating your house or apartment, decorating and carving pumpkins, playing Halloween-themed games, watching spooky movies, and trick-or-treating through your house or in a backyard scavenger hunt are all fun and healthy ways to celebrate during this time. Be safe. Be Healthy. Happy Halloween!

COVID-19 CASE CONFIRMED: SALEM CSD This afternoon Washington County, NY Public Health Department and the Salem Central School District received notification of a COVID-19 + result from an attendee of the Salem High School, who was in attendance (in-person) as recent as October 22, 2020. County Public Health and the School District are working closely to identify all potential exposures and work through the Public Health Investigation as quickly as possible. SALEM CSD MODIFIED... SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED The Salem Central School District has a previously scheduled remote learning day for the entire district for tomorrow (Friday, 10/30), which will continue as scheduled. The school district staff is also in the process of communicating information on the status of the situation with the school community and will be shifting school for all grade levels to remote learning for all of next week (through Friday, November 6th), in accordance with the school's response plans. Check back on the school's website for additional updates here: https://www.salemcsd.org/ HOW DOES CONTACT TRACING WORK? When a COVID-19 related Public Health investigation commences, our Public Health team obtains information regarding whereabouts, visits, events and lists of contacts of a COVID-19 positive or PUI (Person Under Investigation). Following that, lists are reviewed for exposures and the investigation continues and contact tracing begins, which is conducted by our Public Health team and/or the NYS Contact Tracing team. Contact tracing is conducted by phone, so please be sure to keep your eyes out for calls from "NYS Contact Tracing" or "Washington Co". While we understand this is a very concerning situation, contact tracing is very detailed and takes time to complete accurately. Please understand that the contact tracing process will be ongoing through tonight and into tomorrow. PLEASE continue to be vigilant and utilize safe and healthy practices as noted : - STAY HOME if you're not feeling well - BE MINDFUL of your activities and those you visit (for contact tracing, if needed) - SOCIAL DISTANCE (at least 6' between you and others) - AVOID large gatherings (even though we all want to!) - WASH YOUR HANDS often - MASK UP in public places THANK YOU SALEM CSD & COMMUNITY The Salem CSD administration and staff are following their plan with dedication and working with our Public Health team hand in hand. Our Public Health team wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the school personnel and the Salem CSD community for their handling, coordination of the investigation and their understanding and support as we begin the process and work through it throughout the evening and into tomorrow. We will provide a coordinated update with our partners at the Salem CSD on the situation as soon as we have the Public Health Investigation complete.
