As our season comes to a close, we would like to thank everyone who has #ComeAboard for a tour, visited our museum, donated, or just took a stroll through our Park and Monuments Garden this summer. This past season has been our hardest yet due to the impact of COVID-19. #HappyBirthday Ralph C. Wilson, Jr.! October 17, 1918 March 25, 2014 #RalphWilson served as a Lieutenant Commander in the #USNavy during #WWII and was the commanding officer of the minesweeper #USSPicket. He served in both the Atlantic & Pacific theatres and navigated the first ship into Tokyo Bay after the atomic bomb had been dropped. He witnessed the devastation left behind after the bomb dropping and the official surrender of the Japanese Imperial Forces. Mr. Wilson... returned from military duty and became a successful businessman. He was best known as the founder and 54-year owner of the #BuffaloBills! In 2017, Mrs. Mary Wilson generously donated her husband’s military uniform, medals, and letters that he wrote to his father during World War II to the #BuffaloNavalPark. His birthday, October 17, has been declared by the Naval Park as Commander Ralph C. Wilson Student Day to honor his legacy and contributions in Western New York. Though we couldn't host Ralph C. Wilson Student Day this year due to COVID-19, here is a photo from last year's festivities of students visiting the exhibit! #RalphCWilsonStudentDay
